Titanium is safer than gold alloys, Silver, Platinum  for sensitive skins.Titanium is the preferred metal for prosthetic implants because of its unsurpassed inert properties and hypoallergenic nature. It was first developed for erospace industry.Titanium, a refractory  metal is a strong as steel, but 45% lighter  and  wont rust. It  is twice  as  strong as Aluminum, but only 60% heavier.Titanium keeps its strength at high temperature up to red hot, where steel slumps and aluminum is liquid.
Uses : Titanium anodizing as surface treatment thickens the natural Titanium oxide film, thereby galling can be significantly  reduced  on  threaded  components.Anodising  increases  lubricity,  antigalling  increases  fatique strength improves  surface finish. In orthopedic implants, titanium anodizing is used because of its non toxic nature  and  drastic improvement  in  implant  performance.  There  is  no  measurable  dimensional  change because  of  penetrating coating.Increases malleability of moving parts. Coating is continuous, smooth, adherent, without flaking in highly stressed areas. Coating can be welded.Characteristic grey colour is easily distinguishable from S. Steel.
Application:  From  orthopedic,  dental  to  undersea  maleable  connectors  to  aerospace  components.  Within orthopedic – bone plates, screws, intra medullary nails and rods, spine cages etc.
